The hidden power of somatic therapy.

After treating 1,387 clients, I discovered therapy's biggest blind spot.

I’ll tell you that blind spot in a second.

But first I have something important to tell you.

As a therapist, I believe there is a time and place for talk therapy. But most people think that therapeutic solutions happen in your head.

But the therapy’s biggest blind spot is that your body-mind connection doesn’t communicate in words. The body-mind connection communicates through symbols, images, metaphors…

…And sensations.

When you free up energy in the body, that energy rises up the spine into the brain. You literally shorten the distance between intellectual understanding and emotional understanding.

That’s the hidden power of somatic therapy:

The body becomes a bridge, not a barrier.

I discovered this through years of trying to help people with talk therapy alone. Don't get me wrong, great therapy is relational. But most models ignore nutrition, biology, and the plain fact that people live inside bodies.

Meanwhile, people eat fast food, and wonder why their mental health doesn’t improve (despite years of talk therapy).

I realized the entire system was missing something fundamental.

So I started looking beyond traditional approaches and leaned into movement work, the Alexander Technique, and eventually depth psychology.

Which led me to long meditation sessions.

Where I could feel "frequency". Or layers of information you connect to somatically. These layers of information felt more real than most things I’ve experienced in the material world.

Here’s what I learned…

Your body runs about 95% of the show outside conscious awareness. And your body doesn't speak English, it speaks sensation.

The body also holds patterns as well.

Survival patterns embedded in fascia, posture, gait, facial expression. To change your nervous system, you have to disrupt those patterns. By moving into new, "non-you" ways.

And my favorite way to do that?

My own personally developed form of somatic shaking. I imagine the body as a magnet (root to crown) and let a pulsing wave move up the spine, releasing through the top.

Simple. Potent. Diagnostic.

When I work with clients, I can see how tightly someone’s ego grips them, how flexible their system is, how ready they are to let go.

Which brings me to today’s lesson…

When you increase awareness and free energy in the body, cognition naturally expands. Insight stops being a concept and becomes electricity. You stop outsourcing authority. Whether to institutions, dogma, or even a therapist…and reclaim sovereignty from the inside out.

For men especially, this isn't about "belonging." It's about empowerment. Agency. The felt capacity to influence your life.

Somatics frames emotional work like the gym:

  • Trainable

  • Measurable

  • Embodied

You don't become a word specialist.

You become a signal specialist, reading and reshaping the patterns that drive you.

If there's a single sentence for the hidden power of somatic therapy, it's this:

It collapses the gap between knowing and being, turning ideas into embodied truth by teaching your nervous system a new pattern it can trust.

This week, I’m going to dive into my favorite exercises to help you bridge the body mind gap.

And next week, I will be promoting my girlfriend Kimia Yaqub’s Brain Based Healing Protocol. Where I instruct never before seen somatic tactics to regulate your nervous system.

With love and healing,
