A Brain Divided

you're not alone

"I want to improve my mental health, but I don't know where to start."

You're not alone.

Thinking about mental health issues raise a lot of questions:

Do I need years of therapy to feel better?

What exactly is the nervous system?

Trauma? Oh god.

Can I actually feel better without reliving the past? Or should I just keep pushing through and hope for the best?

I get it—I had the same questions.

I was two years into my therapy career before I uncovered a deeper truth about mental health.

Before that, I spent a 10+ years searching for answers—dedicated to personal growth, healing, and trying every method I could find.

Cognitive therapy, psychoanalysis, and mindfulness played critical roles in my recovery from Anxiety, PTSD, and Complex Trauma.

These practices (along with exercise, nutrition, and breathwork) served as my foundation for stability and resilience.

For years, they worked.

But even with:

  • A deep investment in personal healing

  • Master's degree in Psychology

  • 7+ years as a mental health professional

I still found myself hyper-vigilant, burned out, and fatigued...

That’s when I turned to Somatic Psychology.

After years of personal research, client work, and hands-on experimentation, I finally had my “aha” moment.

Somatic Psychology held the answers I was searching for.

It all starts with a key principle of neuroscience:

Humans have a divided brain.

But this isn’t the old myth that the left brain is logical and the right brain is emotional.

While there’s some truth to that idea, modern neuroscience reveals a much more complex and dynamic interplay.

Instead, the divided brain refers to how different regions and systems shape our perception, emotions, and overall experience of the world.

The Intelligence of the Mind

Primarily in the neocortex, the outermost layer of the brain responsible for higher-order functions like reasoning, language, and planning.

It’s the part of your brain you’re using right now to read and interpret these words.

Yet, the mind can overanalyze, leading to stress and mental exhaustion.

The Intelligence of the Body

Connected to the brainstem, midbrain and limbic system—brain regions responsible for memory, processing emotions, sensory input, and survival instincts.

"Gut feelings" aren’t just a metaphor, your body is constantly processing signals from your environment through a vast network of neurons.

This ongoing interaction shapes your umwelt—the unique way you perceive and navigate the world around you.

Think of it like your personal GPS, constantly updating based on what your body experiences.

The Power of the BodyMind

When these systems work in harmony, they form what I call BodyMind—a state where intuition and reasoning align.

But, most of us are stuck in our heads, ignoring the body’s vital signals—leaving us stressed, anxious, and disconnected from our true selves.

Somatic Psychology restores balance, helping you reconnect with your BodyMind.

When aligned, you feel clear, energized, and deeply grounded—your natural state.

Introducing: The BodyMind Rewind

Conventional mental health approaches often fall short—focusing solely on talking and thinking, ignoring the body's critical role in healing.

We don’t live in a world where "thinking positive” or “talking it out” is enough to heal.

Your BodyMind holds the key to deeper, lasting change.

You don’t need years of therapy to start feeling better.

You don’t need to relive your worst memories to heal.

With the right tools, you can rewind your nervous system—releasing stress, trauma, and emotional blocks stored in your body.
